Reports of widespread vandalism continue to come in from the Hollister area, the Halifax County Sheriff's Office says.

Deputy Chief Scott Hall said in a statement the vandalism ranges from burned trash cans to mailboxes knocked from posts and windows broken at residences and cars spray-painted.

Detective D.C. Dickens said he was investigating the burning of two garbage cans, one damaged mailbox and window damage at two houses while he said Detective B.C. Griffin was investigating the spray-painting of two cars, window damage to one house and damage to one mailbox.

Dickens said the vandalism is most likely attributable to the same group of people and damages thus far total close to $2,000.

He said more reports continue to come in and detectives are investigating.

Hall also said he believes the vandalism is most likely the work of the same group of people but added it was too early to tell.

Hall said similar reports were received in Warren County.

The swath of destruction was discovered on Lynch Road, Hedgepeth Road, Ita Road, Williams Road, Arcola Road, Knight Road, Mills Road and Highway 4.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the sheriff's office at 252-583-8201 or Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
