RRPD blotter: May 20-25

The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Chuck Hasty:

May 20

Around 10:45 a.m., Officer Joey Spragins conducted a stop on Smith Church Road for a traffic violation.

The driver, Larry Trevell Spurlock, 27, of Rocky Mount, was arrested and charged with speeding, failing to stop for a stop sign, driving while license revoked and resisting/delaying/obstructing an officer.

Spurlock, who was out on bond for another case, was given a $10,000 bond and July 24 court date.

Spurlock gave Spragins false information during the traffic stop that resulted in the resisting charge. Officer Patrick Smith assisted.

Around 1p.m., Smith responded to a report at East Tenth Street and Carolina Avenue about someone looking at people in a swimming pool using binoculars.

Smith located Terry James Letchworth, 52, of Roanoke Rapids, sitting in a vehicle and determined he had been drinking while carrying a concealed weapon.

During a search of the vehicle a marijuana pipe was found and he was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

Letchworth was released to a responsible person and given a June 5 court date.

Deputy Chief Andy Jackson, Master Officer Gerald Morris and his dog Dozer assisted.

May 21

Around 9:30 a.m., Sergeant Richard White and Smith responded to a trespassing call at Rent-A-Center on Premier Boulevard.

The manager said a Person later identified as Ned Louis Parker Jr., 56, of Roanoke Rapids, had been told several times to leave the property but refused.

The officers located Parker behind the business inside a makeshift shelter.

Smith arrested and charged Parker with trespassing.

Parker was given a $300 bond and a June 15 court date.

Around 2 p.m., Spragins responded to a larceny call at Just Save on East Tenth Street.

Spragins arrived and he located Albert Lee Simmons Jr., 25, of Roanoke Rapids, attempting to enter another business.

Simmons had allegedly taken items from the store without paying for them.

Spragins arrested and charged Simmons, who was out on bond in another case, with larceny and possession of stolen goods.

Simmons was given a $4,000 bond and July 24 court date.

Investigator Frankie Griffin, Lieutenant Jeff Baggett and White assisted.

May 22

Around 1:30 p.m., Lieutenant Charles Burnette responded to a larceny call at Walmart and charged Connie Pearson Northington, 43, of Enfield, with larceny, possession of stolen goods and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Northington allegedly took items from the store without paying with her minor children present. Northington was given a $1,000 bond and June 19 court date.

Officer Scott Blythe assisted.

Around 3 p.m., Blythe responded to Just Save about a larceny.

Holly Alicia Suggs, 35, of Roanoke Rapids, had allegedly concealed items while inside the store. Blythe arrested and charged Suggs with concealment of goods.

Suggs, who was out on bond on another case, was given a $10,000 bond and June 30 court date.

Around 9:45 p.m., Master Officer Mark Peck located William Howard Webb III, 26, of Roanoke Rapids, for an assault inflicting bodily injury warrant.

This warrant was from a matter that took place on May 4 when Smith spoke with the victim at the hospital about an assault that allegedly took place at Bobby’s Supermarket where the victim was assaulted by two men and sustained a broken jaw.

Webb was given a $2,500 bond and a court date of July 15.

Investigator Chris Babb was assigned the assault case and obtained the warrants.

The Roanoke Raids Police Department is still looking for Zachary Lamont Tillery, 21, of Roanoke Rapids for assault inflicting serious bodily injury.

Hasty said Tillery is encouraged to turn himself in.

Around 10 p.m., Spragins arrested and charged Branden Kason Allen, 24, of Roanoke Rapids, with driving while license revoked, possession of schedule VI and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Allen attempted to avoid a license check point and was stopped.

Allen was given a $1,000 bond and a July 24 court date.

White assisted with the stop.

May 23

Around 1:30 a.m., Officer Chris Biggerstaff responded to Halifax Regional Medical Center about man later identified as Dennis Coleman Garner, 40, of Enfield, being disruptive and intoxicated.

Garner was given a $1,000 and a May 29 court date.

He was allegedly threatening hospital staff.

Officer Jason Williams assisted.

Around 2:30 p.m., Master Officer Roy Ball responded to a call about a larceny at Just Save.

Ball located the vehicle, a person identified as Jeanette Bland Barrett, 57, of Roanoke Rapids, and items taken from the store.

Ball arrested and charged Barrett with larceny and possession of stolen property.

He also arrested and charged Jasper Cornelius Hines, 62, of Roanoke Rapids, with larceny, possession of stolen goods, possession with intent to sell and deliver schedule II and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The narcotics were located on Hines after he was searched.

Barrett was given a $1,000 bond and Hines was given a $10,000 bond. They both have July 17 court dates.

Blythe assisted.

May 25

Around 3 p.m., Officer Greg Colson responded to a wreck in the 100 block of Jackson Street.

After speaking with the driver, Mason Lee Edwards, 33, of Roanoke Rapids, Colson arrested and charged him with DWI and open container.

Edwards, who was out on bond from another case, was given a $20,000 bond and an August 8 court date.

 

Baggett, Sergeant Mike Moseley and Officer Adam Salmon assisted.
