Two phone scams have been reported in Halifax County over the last two days, according to Sheriff Wes Tripp.

The latest one involves a call from 415-799-9722 in which the caller claims to be from the IRS.

The victim is told they owe $10,000 and that a deputy sheriff will be by within 24 hours to collect unless a credit card number is provided.

A scam reported Monday involves the caller identifying themselves as a court services representative and telling the victim they have used someone else's Social Security number.

This scam is used to obtain personal information, Tripp said.

The sheriff advises to use caution when providing information over the phone.
