Three contract employees for KapStone were treated at a local medical facility Monday afternoon, the company confirmed this morning.

Battalion Chief Richard Cook of the Roanoke Rapids Fire Department said city firefighters responded to assist EMS on a call that initially involved one person down in a tank.

When firefighters arrived they were informed the company's emergency response team had handled everything and were placed on standby. Halifax EMS and the Roanoke Valley Rescue Squad also responded.

Kimberly D. Bracy, mill communications manager, said the matter is under investigation.
