A third person has been charged in the shooting death of Alvin Leon Pierce Jr., Halifax County Sheriff Wes Tripp said in a statement this evening.

It is not clear what 17-year-old Rahakeem Lashley's alleged role in the May 21 murder was. The sheriff could not be reached for immediate comment.

Lashley was charged with murder and was being held without the opportunity for bond. He awaits an August 13 court date.

The sheriff's office has previously charged Artemus Troy Hardy Jr. and Quantonio Devalous Rogers in the shooting, which occurred in the Cottonwood Road area outside Roanoke Rapids.

A dispute over a card game is believed to be the likely motive in the case.
