Seventeen-year-old Kaley Cieslinski knew she wanted to pay it forward in the community, she just didn't know how.

Then one day she got the news that Lexi, the little girl she occasionally babysits, had been taken to the Emergency Room at Halifax Regional Medical Center due to a fall. Kaley said she knew Lexi was probably afraid while in the ER so when she returned home Kaley went to see her and took a stuffed animal.

From there Kaley's Project: Someone Cares was born.

Kaley wanted to collect stuffed animals to be given to children while in the Emergency Room, to help them be less afraid. She and her mom met with Charlotte Ferguson, ER manager at HRMC to discuss her ideas and to get approval. "Mrs. Ferguson loved my idea and told me that not only could I help children but I could also help patients with dementia and Alzheimer's,” she said. “So with my babysitting money I went out and bought stuffed animals, coloring books, crayons and children's books. I then asked my family, friends and neighbors if they would help me by donating and they did."

Kaley is a junior at KIPP Pride High in Gaston and wants to continue her project throughout her senior year so she is now asking for community support. Donations of the items mentioned above may be dropped off at Discount Tire on 10th Street where a community drop box is located.

"I made my first delivery to the ER last week and was so excited. Mrs. Ferguson will let me know when their supplies run low and I will bring more," she said/

A Facebook page has been created under the name Kaley's Project: Someone Cares where updates and pictures will be posted.
