A Weldon man was jailed today after he allegedly stole a three-pack of Nike socks from a local store.

The socks were valued at $43, according to a statement from Detective Chris Scott of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office.

John Isaac Smith, 53, faces charges of misdemeanor larceny and possession of stolen goods.

Smith has a past history of shoplifting merchandise from stores in Roanoke Rapids and Weldon, Scott said.

He was jailed on $2,500 bond and has an April 30 court date.
