Fire gutted a house on Roper Springs Road this morning, according to Davie volunteer firefighters.

Lieutenant Jason Shotwell said the fire department received the call shortly after 9 a.m. and arrived to find one side of the house engulfed and the fire spreading throughout the interior.

Firefighters from Davie and Littleton got the fire under control in about 10 to 15 minutes.

Occupants got out safely, although a woman in the house was sent to the hospital as a precaution to be checked for smoke inhalation, Traffic Captain Michael Kidd said.

Shotwell said most of the personal belongings were damaged and through fire and smoke damage the house was destroyed.

Kidd said firefighters were leaning toward the dryer being the possible cause of the blaze, either through a malfunction, overheating or a clogged vent.

Kidd said the victims have family in the area.

Approximately 16 firefighters — 10 from Davie and at least six from Littleton — responded, as well as EMS, the state Department of Transportation and the American Red Cross.
