RRPD roundup: Abuse charge; traffic stops

The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Chuck Hasty:

Suspect surrenders

On Wednesday at approximately 5:15 p.m., Shawna Dawn Mullins, 37, of Roanoke Rapids, surrendered to Officer H. Grimes at the police department.
Mullins was charged with child abuse and received a $1,000 bond and June 7 court date.
The charges stem from an investigation by Lieutenant C.L. Vaught after the child’s father reported the alleged abuse to another jurisdiction on March 26.
Vaught said victim sustained marks on their body.

Drug charges

Also on Wednesday at approximately 11:15 p.m., Master Officer G. Morris conducted a traffic stop for a violation on East Tenth Street near Julian R. Allsbrook Highway.
Narcotics and paraphernalia were found inside the vehicle.
Kesha Denya Madric, 29, of Murfreesboro, was cited for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
She was released until her July 21 court date.

Identity theft charge

On Thursday around 2:15 p.m., Investigator J.K. Davis conducted a traffic stop for a violation on Oak Street near Powell.
During the stop Corey Jay Claboine, 26, of Garysburg, gave Davis a false name to avoid being arrested on numerous outstanding orders for arrest.
Claiboine was arrested on the orders for arrest and during a body search was found in possession of narcotics.
He faces charges of identity theft; driving while license revoked; false information to officer; seat belt violation; possession of cocaine and possession of marijuana.
He was also served three orders for arrest.
He received a $13,800 bond and June 7 court date.
Investigator G.L. Williams assisted.

Larceny suspect charged on felony level

In another matter Thursday, officers J. Spragins and R. Cross responded around 6:30 p.m. to a larceny call at Walgreen’s.
Marvin Lewis Scott, 25, of Roanoke Rapids, ran from the officers when they approached.
He was caught a short distance away.
Officers discovered Scott had several outstanding warrants from larceny cases investigated by Detective M. Brown of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.
Scott was charged with three counts of habitual larceny; four counts of possession of stolen goods; felony possession of stolen goods; two counts larceny; trespassing; possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting,delaying,obstructing an officer.
He received a $5,000 bond and June 7 court date.

Drug charges

Also on Thursday, Wiltsie conducted a traffic stop around 8:45 p.m. at Premier Boulevard near Julian R. Allsbrook Highway.
Narcotics were found in the vehicle and Keith Lamont Person Jr., 18, of Jackson, was cited for possession of marijuana.
He was released until his May 22 court date.
