The Northampton County Sheriff’s Office and North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation are conducting a death investigation after the body of a woman was found in a field near the roadway off Macon Price Road.

The body of the woman, cordoned off by crime scene tape, was visible from the shoulder of Highway 301 between Garysburg and the Pleasant Hill community.
Numbered evidence markers could be seen around her body. An agent was observed taking photos around the scene and of the woman’s body. The agent could also be seen collecting the yellow evidence markers.
Chief Deputy Daryl Harmon of the sheriff’s office said a passerby spotted the woman’s body around 6 this morning.
Sheriff Jack Smith said the woman’s name was not immediately known and agents with the SBI and detectives with his office continue to investigate.
