A Roanoke Rapids woman surrendered to the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office today and faces numerous counts related to the alleged theft of $1,800 worth of lottery tickets from the store where she was employed.

The counts also reflect she reportedly scratched and cashed 21 winning tickets, Detective B.C. Griffin of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said this evening.

The winning amounts Jennifer Faye Squire collected varied between $30 and $200, Griffin said.
Detective L.E. Mann said in a statement the theft of the lottery tickets occurred at the store where the 31-year-old Squire worked at, which is located on Highway 48 in the Roanoke Rapids area.
Griffin, who worked with Mann on the investigation, declined to release the name of the store.
Mann said in the statement the larceny was reported on March 7.
Griffin said the store owner noticed the larceny through regular inventory practices. The two rolls of tickets had not been placed in dispensers.
They were stolen from a storage room, he said.
The detectives charged Squire with 60 counts of larceny by employee and 60 counts of possession of stolen goods.
She faces 21 additional counts of obtaining property by false pretense after she reportedly scratched and cashed the winning tickets at local stores, Mann said in the statement.
Griffin said Squire is no longer employed at the store.
She received an $8,000 bond and April 19 court date.
