A handgun and several items of drug paraphernalia were also seized during the service of a search warrant at an apartment on Meacham Drive, which is off Georgia Avenue in Roanoke Rapids.
Both police Chief Chuck Hasty and task force Captain A.M. Harris confirmed the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives was contacted.
Federal adoption of the case is being sought because the man who arrested, Tayvon Moody, 26, has an extensive criminal history, Hasty said in a statement.
The Meacham Drive raid occurred shortly before 4 p.m. and was a joint effort by the task force and patrol division of the police department. The search warrant was based on surveillance and activity at the residence
The paraphernalia seized during the search warrant execution included plastic bags, a spoon and digital scale.
Task force Agent D.W. Mckeel arrested and charged Moody, of Roanoke Rapids, for felony possession of cocaine, possession with the intent to sell and deliver cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, maintaining a dwelling or vehicle for a controlled substance and possession of a firearm by felon.
He received a $20,000 bond and October 26 court date.
Estimated street value of the cocaine seized is $510.
Vehicle stop
On Tuesday, shortly after 1 p.m., McKeel and Agent C.A. Parker were following up on several drug complaints when they conducted a traffic stop for a violation on East Tenth Street and Becker Drive.
During the search agents located 18 individually wrapped bags — 6.6 grams — of cocaine and drug paraphernalia.
Agents arrested and charged Michael Harris, 38, of Gaston for felony possession of cocaine, possession with the intent to sell and deliver cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia. Harris received a $2,000 bond and October 26 court date.
Halifax County Sheriff’s Office Corporal J. Bozard and his dog, Fino, assisted during the traffic stop.
The driver received a written warning for the traffic violation.
Estimated street value of the cocaine seized is $360.
Paraphernalia charge
The task force also reported a man was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia during a search warrant execution in Weldon on Highway 158 near the Community Home Park area.
Weldon Police Department Sergeant T.L. Mason and his dog, Rio, assisted in the search warrant execution shortly after 11:45 p.m. Tuesday.
During the search of the residence agents located several items of drug paraphernalia which included several syringes, spoons with residue, straws with white residue which tested positive for the presence of cocaine, smoking pipes and a marijuana grinder.
Harris cited Timothy Joyner, 23, who has a November 16 court date.
