Joseph Boone Jr., who eluded law enforcement for 11 days after breaking free from custody, reportedly broke into a vehicle while on the lam.

The motor vehicle breaking and entering was reported three-and-a-half hours before he was caught Monday.
Chief Deputy Scott Hall of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said Boone reportedly took a vehicle battery and ratchet set from the vehicle, which was located in the Highway 48 area of Roanoke Rapids.
Deputy R.L. Chin responded to the report, which was received around 7:30 a.m. Monday.
Investigation by Detective R.B. Biggerstaff led to a count of breaking and entering a motor vehicle and two counts of larceny being lodged against the 47-year-old Boone. Biggerstaff charged him today.
Boone was arrested in the July matter around 11 a.m. Monday by the City County Drug Task Force after a brief foot chase and faces charges lodged by the Roanoke Rapids Police Department.
He received a $2,000 secured bond for the vehicle break-in and an August 14 court date.
The events leading to the search for Boone and his eventual capture unfolded around 10:45 a.m. on July 28.
Roanoke Rapids Officer Jamie Hardy responded to a call of a larceny from a vehicle in the Lowe’s Home Improvement parking lot.
The victim reported items were taken from the back of their vehicle while they were inside the store.
Surveillance video showed a burgundy Ford Excursion pulled next to the victim’s vehicle and a person got out and took items. The vehicle left the parking lot and Roanoke Rapids Sergeant Daniel Jenkins spotted it at Walgreen’s.
Boone and Travis Sentell Davis, 37, both of Roanoke Rapids, were in the vehicle. Boone was found to be in possession of narcotics and had an outstanding order for arrest and outstanding warrant for larceny and possession of stolen goods from a June 23 matter.
Boone also has a court appearance on August 24 to answer to several larceny charges and a charge of larceny of a firearm, according to state court records.
Boone broke free while officers were talking with him and Daniels and ran toward the wood line behind DrugCo.
