A Roanoke Rapids man was charged earlier this week in a July 9 home invasion in the Highway 48 area.

Tajma Ussery

Detective B.C. Griffin of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said Taj’Ma Ussery, 18, is the lone alleged suspect in the case. The motive was robbery of money, he said.
Investigation began after the sheriff’s office responded to a call last month of a home invasion in progress, Chief Deputy Scott Hall said in a statement.
When deputies arrived they found the man later identified as Ussery fled the area.
Deputies located the residents, and verified they were safe and unharmed, Hall said.

The Roanoke Rapids Police Department arrested Ussery Tuesday.
After further investigation Griffin charged Ussery with breaking and entering, attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, three counts of first-degree kidnapping, and three counts of assault with a deadly weapon. He also has a charge of carrying a concealed weapon, according to state court records.
He was jailed on $503,500 bond and has an August 24 court date.
