Three attempted robbery victims are reported to be in stable condition after they were shot early this morning on Happy Drive in the P&J area outside Roanoke Rapids.

Chief Deputy Scott Hall of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said witnesses described at least two suspects participating in the robbery attempt, which occurred around 1:30 a.m.
Responding deputies, Hall said in a statement, found one gunshot victim at the scene. Two others were transported to Halifax Regional by private vehicle.
Investigation, Hall said, shows while the victims were outside, multiple masked people appeared from the darkness and demanded money.
Hall said this evening the victims did not comply with the demands and the suspects began shooting multiple times. He declined to say whether the victims were armed.
The suspects, he said, were possibly armed with handguns and an assault rifle.
There were no other physical descriptions given other than the assailants wore masks and were armed.
The three victims were transported to an undisclosed trauma medical facility where they remain in stable condition although one did received serious injuries, Hall said.
Anyone with information is encouraged to call Detective Robert Hale at 252-583-8201 or Crimestoppers at 252583-4444.
