Lieutenant M.D. DeLoatch Sr. of the Northampton County Sheriff's Office said in a statement Dewayne Flythe, 22, faces charges of first-degree burglary; felony possession of stolen goods; larceny of a firearm; robbery with a dangerous weapon; felony larceny after after breaking and entering and assault by pointing a gun.

The burglary was reported shortly before midnight at a residence on Brickyard Trail when two people, one armed, came into the victim's house and took several items.

Investigation by Detective J. Jenkins led to the identification of Flythe, who was taken into custody at his residence without trouble.

He was jailed on $251,000 bond and received an April 25 court date.

Sheriff Jack Smith in the statement commended his staff of Captain Courtney Williams, Jenkins, Sergeant Alan Roye and Deputy Roderick Howard for what he described as diligent work in the case.

Smith said the county 911 center kept the victim as calm as possible throughout the ordeal.

The Ahoskie Police Department and Hertford County Sheriff's Office assisted.

“This event would not have been brought to a peaceful conclusion without everyone working together,” Smith said. “As a safety note citizens should use extreme caution when opening your doors at home because everyone that comes to your home is not your friend. Know who is on the other side of the door before opening it.
