The man believed to be the alleged suspect in a Saturday night pool hall shooting surrendered to law enforcement this evening.

Michael Richardson, 46, of Littleton, was jailed on $50,000 bond and was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and inflicting serious injury.

Detective Willie Murphy Jr. of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office declined this evening to say specifically why Richardson, who surrendered around 6:30 p.m., decided to come forward.

Murphy did say the shooting, in which the victim was shot in the torso, appears to be over an ongoing dispute between residents of the of the Medoc and Ringwood areas.

The shooting occurred at Richardson's Pool Hall in the Ringwood area, which Murphy said is a local hangout.

Murphy declined to disclose the type of weapon used in the shooting, which initially left the 38-year-old victim in critical condition, although the condition this evening was listed as fair.

Murphy said in a statement on the matter the investigation continues and more people could be charged.

Richardson received a February 24 court date.

Deputies responded to the pool hall around 9 p.m. Saturday.
