A stop for a motor vehicle violation this afternoon resulted in the arrests of three men on drug charges.

While he declined to discuss the specific infraction, Captain A.M. Harris of the City County Drug Task Force said in a statement, the stop occurred shortly before 1:15 in the area of Highway 301 and Dogwood Drive in Weldon as he was driving behind the vehicle in question.

Harris stopped the vehicle in the Family Dollar parking and could smell marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.

He identified the driver as Cortney Brown of Weldon and called for assistance, Weldon police Officer V. Davis and Deputy Chief James Avens arriving, as well as Sergeant A. Pittman of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office.

A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of 282 grams of marijuana; 12 grams of cocaine; 16 Alprazolam pills, plastic bags and currency.
