ASHLAND, Va. – Randolph-Macon junior forward Kelly Williams (Garysburg, N.C./Halifax Academy) was named the preseason national Player of the Year by Women's DIII News. In addition, the coaches' newsletter picked Randolph-Macon as the ninth-ranked team in the nation.

Williams returns as the reigning Old Dominion Athletic Conference Player of the Year and an All-American by three organizations: The Women's Basketball Coaches Association, d3hoops.com and Women's DIII News. She led the nation in points per game, total points, total rebounds and double-doubles last year while starting all 29 games in 2017-18. In her freshman season, she was named the ODAC Rookie of the Year and led the conference in rebounds per game and total rebounds.

Randolph-Macon is coming off a season where it won its ninth ODAC Championship in team history. The team hosted an NCAA First and Second Round game in Ashland, where it defeated Valley Forge in its first round game before bowing out of the Tournament to Christopher Newport in the second round. R-MC was not ranked in any polls last year. The DIII News Top 25 is picked by the staff of the newsletter.

The team begins the season on November 12 at Marymount at 6:00 PM.
