The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office had the opportunity to start off the week of Hero Camp at Halifax County 4H today.
Deputies had the opportunity to talk with campers about crime scene techniques, fingerprints, drug awareness, traffic safety and the use of our K-9’s.
Campers learned that everybody has their own unique fingerprints and how fingerprints are used in some cases to solve a crime or identify a person.
Investigators also presented a video during their presentation.

Patrol deputies and agents of the Halifax Regional Drug and Gang Task Force talked about the use of a canine during certain situations.
They talked about different languages they use and even how they communicate with their canine partner using hand signals.
Agents stressed the importance of saying no to drugs.
The Community Action Team went over traffic safety: The movement of vehicles, the importance of using sidewalks, avoiding the road and the importance to stop, look and listen when crossing the street or highway.
Deputies wear a lot of gear on their duty belts and tactical vests.
Campers got the chance to actually feel how heavy the equipment really is that we use and carry.
This was a fun filled day of activities and questions.
Campers now have a better understanding of being a deputy sheriff.
