Woodrow Wilson “Buddy” Wrenn passed away on Tuesday, Oct 3, 2023 at the age of 95.

He was born in Northampton County on October 7, 1927 to the late A.M. Wrenn and Jannie Wrenn.

He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Robert, Lee and Clifton Wrenn and sisters Gracie Jordan and Fannie Wrenn and his wife Greta Welch Wrenn.

He is survived by his son Jeff (Betty Jo) from Wilson, NC and daughter Kathy Wrenn from Benson NC.

After graduating from RR High School in 1946 where he played baseball and basketball, his opportunity to play baseball for the St. Louis Browns was cut short when he was drafted into the Army.

The highlight of his baseball tenure at Wake Forest included playing on the 1949 College World Series team.

He would go on to play for the Raleigh Capitals and the Wilson Tobs.

Upon retiring from J. P. Stevens, he helped coach baseball at RRHS and would spend many years as an umpire in the local high school leagues.

In 2018 he was inducted into the RRHS Athletic Hall of Fame.

Visitation will be held Friday, October 6, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Wrenn Funeral Home with a graveside service to follow at Cedarwood Cemetery with Pastor Jim Bell officiating.
