Richard Andrew Leigh Mayton, Sr., 84, of Roanoke Rapids, died Friday July 15, 2022 with his family by his side.

He was a native of Halifax County and was the son of the late Leroy Andrew and Mary Alice Pelkey Mayton. 

He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Richard Andrew Leigh Mayton, III, sister, Maurine M. Hedgepeth, brothers, Thomas Ira Mayton, George Mayton and J.W. Mayton.

Richard was retired from J.P. Stevens. He loved to travel, loved his animals and most of all he loved being with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Maxine Lynch Mayton, his daughter, Mary Mayton Brantley of Roanoke Rapids, his son, Richard Andrew Leigh Mayton, Jr. and his with Elizebeth of Roanoke Rapids, his grandchildren, Stephanie Nycole Brantley, William Nicholas Brantley and Adrienne Campbell and Eric Lee Mayton, great grandchildren, Kayla Alexis Casper, Richard Andrew Leigh Mayton, IV, Kaitlyn Nichole Mayton, Jaden Lane Mayton, Noah Blake Brown and Aleah Maxine Mayton, his sister, Yvonne Hughes, his brother, Joe Mayton and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday July 21, 2022 at Rosemary Baptist Church with Dr. Layne Wallace officiating 

Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7-8:30 at Askew Funeral and Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids.
