Deputies issued 59 citations for violations during the week-long Governor’s Highway Safety Program’s Operation Crash Reduction.
The program ended Sunday and a new Booze It & Lose it campaign will be held from October 28 through November 3, said Major Anzell M. Harris of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies conducted 13 events that included traffic checkpoints, saturated patrols, speeding enforcement and seat belt initiatives.
The locations spanned from Highway 301 to Piper Lane, Highway 125 in Scotland Neck, Highway 301 to the Edgecombe County line, Highway 301 at Edwards Fork, Interstate 95, Highways 301 and 125, and Highways 561 and 301.
School zone enforcement was conducted at Hollister Elementary, Southeast Halifax, and William R. Davie schools.
“We really appreciate the assistance of troopers of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol and enforcement officers of the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission for joining in and participating,” Harris said. “We encourage everyone to buckle up and drivers not to speed.”
