This morning around 2:45 Deputy K. Taylor stopped a vehicle in Scotland Neck for a registration violation.

Investigation revealed the driver, Doreatha Williams Jones, 64, of Scotland Neck, was in possession of crack cocaine.

She was arrested and charged with possession of schedule II controlled substances, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while license revoked, and a fictitious registration plate.

Stolen items

On May 21 deputies responded to a home in Roanoke Rapids about the larceny of a Cub Cadet push mower. On May 31 deputies responded to another home in Roanoke Rapids on a report of the larceny of two chainsaws.

On Saturday Deputy A. Perkins obtained warrants for one count of felony larceny and one count of possession of stolen goods and arrested Lionel Maurice Martin, 40, of Roanoke Rapids, for the mower theft.

Martin remains in the Halifax County Detention Center without the opportunity for bond due to other pending court dates.

On Monday Detective Sergeant B. Edmondson served Martin with warrants for one count of felony larceny and two counts of obtaining property by false pretense related to the chainsaws.

He has a June 27 district court date.

The stolen items were recovered and will be returned to the owners.
