Fire destroyed an abandoned house at Washington Avenue and Sycamore Street Wednesday night, according to the Weldon Fire Department.

Firefighters responded to the 1100 block of Washington Avenue and found the house engulfed with flames coming out of all windows and the roof, which collapsed.

The blaze was quickly contained, Chief Michael Sumner said.

There were 25 responding firefighters representing Weldon, Rheasville, Halifax and Roanoke Rapids.

The cause of the fire is undetermined. There were no injuries.

The Weldon Police Department and Halifax County EMS were on the scene and Halifax County 911 assisted through communications with responders.

“I would like to thank everyone for their hard work at this fire, working diligently through stormy conditions,” Sumner said.
