The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office reported the following, according to Captain Scott Hall:

A Halifax man faces charges related to the shooting of his mother this morning on Hedgepeth Road.

Bryan Dereck Clements, 34, of Halifax, has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and was jailed in the Halifax County Detention Center without the opportunity for bond.

He was also charged with felony possession of schedule 1 — meth — and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Shortly before 7:30 this morning deputies responded to an address in the 100 block of Hedgepeth Road in the Halifax area following a report that a 58-year-old woman had been shot.

Deputies determined the victim was shot by her son, who lived at the home.

The victim was transported to a trauma unit in serious condition.

Investigation continues to determine the motive.

Clements has a March 26 district court date.

Trafficking

A Roanoke Rapids woman was charged with cocaine trafficking and a man with possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine following the execution of search warrants at two locations on the outskirts of the city limits.

The Halifax Regional Drug and Gang Task Force with the assistance of Halifax County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division and Special Response Team executed two search warrants simultaneously Wednesday.

Search warrants were served in the 400 Block of Grant Drive and 4000 block of Highway 158 around 12:30 p.m.

Agents located a combined weight of approximately 650 grams — nearly  1.5 pounds — of powdered cocaine and a loaded Smith & Wesson M&P 9mm. 

Ana Valencia, 39, was charged with trafficking cocaine, two counts of possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, two counts of possession of cocaine and felony maintaining a dwelling.

She received a $1 million bond and March 27 district court date.

Derwin Carballo, 39, was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, possession of cocaine and felony maintaining a dwelling.

He received a $25,000 secured bond and March 28 district court date.

It was not immediately clear who lived at which residence.

Hall said agents applied for and were granted search warrants for the two residences following an extensive investigation into a drug trafficking organization operating in the Roanoke Valley and spanning into the state of Virginia. “Agents have worked tirelessly conducting countless hours of surveillance, speaking with numerous confidential and reliable sources, and have also received multiple community complaints throughout this investigation.”
