Two people have been arrested and charged and two more are being sought in the May death of a Hollister man.

Investigation which led to the arrests of Eric Devon Hinton Jr., 21, and Devonte Montrell Sykes, 19, both of Rocky Mount, included the collection of physical and digital evidence through numerous search warrants, said Lieutenant Shane Guyant of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office, which received assistance from the Rocky Mount Police Department, is also looking for 19-year-old Zakevion Jaques Hillard of Hollister and a male juvenile who Guyant said is under the age of 18.

Hilliard has ties to the Hollister and Rocky Mount areas and had a last known address of Silvertown Road.

The two charged and the two sought are familiar with one another as well as the victim, 19-year-old Quincy Mills, who was found deceased on Evans Farm Road in the Hollister area on May 12.

Guyant said motive in the death is still being investigated.

Hinton and Sykes, who were scheduled to appear in Halifax County District Court today, are both charged with first-degree murder and are being held without the opportunity for bond.

“Criminal investigators have worked extremely hard following up on leads, examining physical forensic evidence, and digital evidence in this case,” Sheriff Tyree Davis said. “This case is still ongoing and investigators will continue to follow up on all matters involving this case including the whereabouts of Hilliard and the juvenile involved.”

Guyant said the case involved a tremendous amount of investigative legwork in the digital realm. “Most of the information we gathered has been through physical and digital evidence.”

The investigation involved going through Google, Apple, internet service providers, social platforms and mobile phone carriers to develop what Guyant described as a strong case. “They did a great job putting this case together. These things take time. Everyone sees this on television and believes it can be gathered in minutes when it can take days and weeks. They went through tons of digital data.”
