The Maryland men face charges of first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and felony conspiracy to commit first-degree murder.

Jacobs described the investigation of the fatal shooting of 30-year-old Ricky Lamar Douglas Jr. as a thorough five-month probe into the crime.

The shooting occurred in the Warner Bridge Road area of Gaston around 5 p.m. Deputies discovered Douglas lying in the front yard, the victim of multiple gunshot wounds.

The warrants have not been served and Jacobs said the investigation continues. Further charges are expected.

“The Northampton County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank all agencies that assisted with this investigation,” Jacobs said. “We would like to thank our patrol division for their dedication and assistance in response to the crime scene, we would like to thank our criminal investigation division for their hard work and countless hours spent with investigation, and we would also like to thank the United States Department of Agriculture for their continued assistance in this case.”

Sheriff Jack Smith said, “I am very thankful that the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office is able to bring some type of closure to the family members of the victim. This was a very senseless and unnecessary act of violence. Our hearts and prayers go out to the family of the victim.”

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the sheriff’s office at 252-534-2611 or Crime Stoppers at 252-534-1110.
