The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office reported the following, according to Lieutenant Shane Guyant:

Early this morning Lieutenant H. Phillips noticed a vehicle with faulty lighting equipment traveling on Highway 125 near American Legion Road.

The driver was identified as Jerry Allan Wooten, 26, of Greenville.

Phillips observed a clear bag containing a white powder-like substance on the console, which was later confirmed to be 2 grams of cocaine. A similar bag containing less than a half-ounce of marijuana was seen in the passenger seat.

Wooten’s driver’s license was confirmed to be revoked from a 2020 DWI.

Wooten faces charges of felony possession of cocaine, misdemeanor possession of marijuana and driving while license revoked.

He received a $2,500 bond and September 22 court date.

On August 27 Trayvon Marquee Richardson, 22, of Hollister, surrendered to the sheriff’s office to face charges related to the theft of catalytic converters.

In May the sheriff’s office received a complaint concerning the larceny of catalytic converters and other motor vehicle parts from a victim in the Hollister area.

After what Guyant called a diligent investigation, Detective Sergeant A. Wood identified Richardson in the case.

He faces charges of felony larceny, felonious possession of stolen goods, injury to personal property to obtain nonferrous metals, and larceny of motor vehicle parts.

He received a $15,000 bond and an October 27 court date.

According to the National Insurance Crime Bureau and Carfax, catalytic converter thefts jumped 325 percent from 2019 to 2021.
