The Center for Energy Education has set October 6 for its fifth annual SolarFest celebration with a bonus event set for October 5.

Both events will be held on the grounds of the center which is located at 460 Airport Road outside Roanoke Rapids off Highway 158.

The SolarFest event on October 6 will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will showcase energy independence and highlight the topics of environmental justice, smart investment in renewable energy and economic opportunities in rural communities.

Invitations have been extended to legislators, solar industry professionals, schools and community members.

The event will also feature exhibits, food and other activities.

Meanwhile, on the evening before SolarFest, the center will present its Clean Power Light the Night event which will feature outdoor music, cinema and food trucks. The event is from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The center will also unveil its Clean Power Avenue of Flags. “This inspirational campaign will educate people to the economic and environmental benefits that renewables can bring to communities and drive action toward a fossil-free future,” said Mozine Lowe, executive director.
