There have been 184 new positive cases of COVID-19 in Halifax County since the health department’s report last week.

Since March of 2020 there have been 16,022 total positive cases, the health department reported. Its next report is scheduled for August 24.

There have been 190 deaths related to the virus with no additional related deaths added since last week’s report.

The reinstatement of weekly reports comes as there was a notable increase in cases in July. They are now slightly declining but Halifax County, according to the CDC, remains in the orange category, which indicates a high level of community transmission.

Hospital admissions at ECU North have decreased over the last week as have COVID measurements in the wastewater supply.
