A Scotland Neck man faces charges from a Saturday night chase in which heroin and marijuana were seized afterward.

Chief Deputy Scott Hall of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said around 8:30 p.m. Lieutenant C. Carroll and Deputy Tracy Story stopped a vehicle driven by a man later identified as Da’Veon Markese Whitaker, 22.

The officers stopped the vehicle for speeding on Highway 125 between Hobgood and Scotland Neck.

Whitaker sped away as the officers approached the vehicle and a chase ensued.

The officers chased Whitaker to Scotland Neck and then onto Edwards Fork Road. The chase ended at the dead end on Railroad Street where Whitaker abandoned the vehicle and ran.

Carroll and Story chased Whitaker and apprehended him about 100 yards in a farm path behind Food Lion.

Ten bindles of heroin and 86 grams of marijuna were seized. Whitaker’s vehicle, a 1999 Chevrolet Caprice, was seized under the felony flee to elude arrest statute.

He faces charges of felony flee to elude arrest with a motor vehicle, possession with intent to sell and deliver heroin, possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, carrying a concealed gun, maintaining a place for a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Whitaker received a $10,000 secured bond and July 21 court date.
