The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Bobby Martin:

Tuesday shortly before 1 a.m., Sergeant M. Hunsucker responded to the area of Chaloner Drive and Sunset Avenue in response to an attempted breaking and entering of a motor vehicle. 

A person later identified as Tajiri Lee, 36, of the Roanoke Rapids area, had been pulling on car doors in an attempt to gain entry.

Officer N. Powell notified other officers she spotted a person on a bike who would not stop.

Lee was eventually caught and several items consistent with larcenies from vehicles were found.

He was charged with felony breaking and entering of a motor vehicle.

No court date had yet been assigned but according to the Halifax County Detention Center he received a $10,000 secured bond.

Lee has pending district court dates on June 17 and August 26 and a July 26 superior court date to answer to a variety of charges.

Officer J. Wind and Master Officer D. Newsome assisted.

Tuesday shortly after 5 p.m. narcotics investigator C. Batchelor conducted a stop for a window tint violation in the area of West Fifth Street and The Store Next door.

Officer J. DeSare and his dog Borys assisted with a free-air sniff of the vehicle. Borys indicated there was a possibility of narcotics in the vehicle.

A search resulted in the location of four Klonopin pills wrapped in plastic inside a cigarette pack, a 9mm handgun and a .22-caliber rifle.

Adam Vernava, 27, of the Roanoke Rapids area, was cited for possession of schedule IV and carrying a concealed weapon. He was released after receiving the citations.
