With no new positive cases of COVID-19 reported today, Halifax County’s percentage of positives now stand at 4 percent.

The Halifax County Health Department reported eight new positives in a report that was sent late Wednesday.

“Halifax County continues to do very well regarding positive cases and percent positives,” health Director Bruce Robistow said today. “We still rank about 32 percent (in people being) vaccinated in Halifax County and we need to do a lot better in this regard.”

As far as this being a sign that COVID-19 is going away, the health director said, “I don’t think it’s going away. My best optimistic guess in the future is that COVID-19 becomes similar to flu. Hopefully it will be seasonal and preventable.”

It is still too early to tell whether, if like the flu, yearly vaccinations will be recommended.

The contrast between the higher numbers at the beginning of the pandemic and now, Robistow said is, “The guidelines set by the governor proved to be effective in reducing the spread. We are fortunate to get a reprieve from COVID-19 during these summer months.”
