In 40 years a time capsule buried on the grounds of Jo Story Senior Center for Active adults will be unearthed.
Inside the capsule those digging will find a treasure trove of memorabilia from 2018 — top songs, top movies, coins and more.
Today the capsule was buried and a stone with a bronze plaque was placed above it.
Helping celebrate the capsule’s burial were members of WoodmenLife Chapter 56, the organization which donated the plaque and has helped the center with other projects.
“They have a great partnership with the senior center,” said Thomas Goble, the center’s supervisor. “They’ve helped us out a lot. They’ve given us (several) donations over the past couple of years.”
It’s partnerships like these which make the center a viable place for seniors, he said. “Having partners like them, Askew, Hockaday and Cofield (funeral homes) and Reser’s helps give them a place where they can find resources, socialize and stay healthy.”

Joyce Wrenn, secretary of the WoodmenLife chapter, said helping the community is part of its mission. “We help with a lot of community needs.”
Wrenn started coming to the center and her thought was, “If I’m coming here I’d like to give to them.”
Said chapter member Connie Hux: “It just feels good to help the community. It’s a way of helping out, a way of helping others.”
William Mueller, chair of the Jo Story Partnership, said, “We thank the WoodmenLife chapter for their generous, kind gift. It’s wonderful to have people like this in the community.”
