The Halifax County Health Department today reported the 28th death related to the novel coronavirus.

According to the state’s COVID-19 dashboard, the death was reported from within the Littleton area ZIP code. That death brings the total within that area ZIP code to two.

The breakdown of deaths is as follows: 17 within the Roanoke Rapids area ZIP code; three within the Weldon area ZIP code; two within the Enfield area ZIP code; two within the Littleton area ZIP code; two within the Scotland Neck area ZIP code; one within the Halifax area ZIP code; and one within the Hollister area ZIP code.

The health department today also added 23 new positive cases bringing the cumulative total since testing began in March to 1,507.

Today’s report notes a continued increase in the trend of positives as health Director Bruce Robistow noted in his report to county commissioners Monday.

The health department continues to encourage residents to practice the three Ws — waiting six feet apart, handwashing and wearing a facial covering. “Improving your compliance with the three Ws now will both better educate children as to how to practice them. Please take this opportunity to protect our children and each other very seriously,” the health department said.
