The Halifax County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Division held a medicine take back on Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon at Walgreens. 

During the event agents took back old or unused medications, no questions asked. 

Captain A.M. Harris said agents Saturday collected 56 pounds of pills, 811 liquids and 5,213 sharps.

Agents will also destroy medication that was collected from departments within the county.

Enfield Police Department — 66 pounds of pills, 211 liquids and 391 sharps

Weldon Police Department — 8 pounds of pills, 10 liquids and 200 sharps

Roanoke Valley Rescue Squad — one-half pound of pills, 85 liquids and 1 sharp

“Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions some of our community partners couldn't assist like they have in the past but they supported the sheriff's office by sharing the flyer on social media,” Harris said. “Special thanks to the management staff of Walgreens who are always ready to assist and the Halifax County Health Department for resources that were given out by agents during the event.”

The Halifax County Health Department supplied literature on preventing an opioid overdose, the signs and symptoms and what to do if you think someone is overdosing.
