The Halifax County Public Health System today said two more positive cases of the novel coronavirus were added to Friday’s total and four more have been added today.

That brings Friday’s total — the previous total Friday was three — to five new cases and with today’s count the number of total cases in Halifax County now stands at 53, health system Director Bruce Robistow said in an update.

In the update Robistow said, “The obvious trend is showing our highest increase in positives to date for the last two days. Continued vigilance and extreme compliance with all orders and recommendations is absolutely critical.”

Statewide statistics at a glance

By phone this afternoon he said, “It’s not trending downward or even flat at this period which is required by the governor for implementation of the three phases to begin lifting the restrictions.

We ask that all the orders and recommendations be taken very seriously so we can flatten or downward the curve sooner than later. The state trend and county trend are quite similar.”

In his update this afternoon, Robistow said the health system is aware of 288 COVID-19 tests being performed.

Of those 288, the statistics are as follows:

53 Positive COVID-19 results, which include one related death

24 of the positive cases have recovered

10 test results pending

225 negative test results

As of this afternoon, the number of positive cases at Caledonia Correctional Institution in Tillery remained at 16.

Northampton County

In its update Friday afternoon, the Northampton County Health Department reported there are 80 total positive cases in which 57 have recovered. There are three related deaths in the county.
