The Halifax County Public Health System this afternoon added an additional positive case of the novel coronavirus, bringing the total to 40 cases.

It is known, according to the North Carolina Department of Public Safety’s latest update, 11 of the positive cases in Halifax County are at Caledonia Correctional Institution in Tillery. There have been 20 tests performed at the prison and nine negative results.

Health system Director Bruce Robistow said in an update as of 4:30 p.m., two more people have recovered.

Robistow said the health system is aware of 231 tests which have been performed. Included in those 231 tests are the 40 positive results; one related death; and 22 recoveries. 

There are 10 test results pending and 181 negative test results.

Northampton County

There are currently 75 total COVID-19 positive cases, 54 of which have recovered, the health department reported in its afternoon update.

There have been two COVID-19 related deaths.

The one additional positive case is related to two current positive cases in a facility. 

There are 58 negative COVID-19 test results related to these three positive cases within the facility. 

All three positive cases are currently isolated.
