As of this morning, the Halifax County Public Health System added an additional positive COVID-19 case to its count, bringing the total to 29.

Of those 29 cases, 11 have recovered, Director Bruce Robistow said in an update.

There has been one death in the county related to the novel coronavirus.

Five of the county’s positive cases are inmates at Caledonia Correctional Institution in Tillery. In the update today, Robistow renewed the admonition for residents to “continue to encourage everyone to stay home, practice social distancing, hand washing, coughing or sneezing into a tissue or the bend of your elbow, sanitizing items and surfaces regularly.”

He also encourages all essential company leaders to “strongly encourage their staff to wear a mask when working in close proximity to customers and fellow staff members. This will prevent people that may have COVID-19 from spreading it to others … anyone that feels that they cannot keep the social distance of 6 feet or more, should also wear a mask if available or appropriate facial covering.”
