A Roanoke Rapids man was jailed on $1.25 million bond after his arrest this morning in a shooting which occurred in the Winfield Drive area.
Detective R.G. Jenkins of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office charged Nicholas Marquise Nicholson, 23, with attempted first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.
Chief Deputy Scott Hall said motive is still being investigated and authorities are waiting on an updated condition report on the victim.
In a statement, Hall said deputies responded around 12:30 this morning to the Winfield Drive area of Roanoke Rapids after receiving a report a victim was shot numerous times.
Investigation by detectives R.M. Brown and Jenkins, Lieutenant S. Casey and Deputy M. Wilkins reportedly identified Nicholson as the alleged suspect in the case.
The victim was initially treated at Vidant North and then flown to another facility.
Nicholson has a March 18 court date.
