The initial call came in shortly after 4 p.m. and a second call went out about 6 minutes later.
Davie volunteer firefighters arrived at the scene to assist and relieve those battling the blaze in the extreme heat.
Halifax EMS set up a firefighter rehab station where those fighting the fire had their vitals checked, were given water and allowed to cool under the breeze of portable fans.
The city’s public works department, police department and Roanoke Valley Rescue Squad were also assisting in the effort.
Patrick said it was too early to say how the fire started or where in the residence it might have started.
