A Roanoke Rapids man was charged with two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon after agents of the Halifax Regional Drug and Gang Task Force followed up on complaints of drug activity at a motel in the city limits Thursday morning.
Major Anzell Harris of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said other narcotics were found in the room of 54-year-old Kenneth Lamont Lassiter and have been sent to the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation for further testing. Results of the testing could lead to more charges.

Agents found two guns in the room.
Lassiter was arrested and charged with two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of marijuana, and possession of marijuana paraphernalia.
The warrant says that Lassiter pleaded guilty in March 2016 to possession with intent to manufacture, sell, and deliver a Schedule II controlled substance. He received 36 months of supervised probation for that charge. He was originally arrested in March 2013.
Lassiter remains in the Halifax County Detention Center under a total secured bond of $100,000 — consisting of two $50,000 secured bonds for each weapon seized.
He is scheduled for a first district court appearance on March 26.
