Roanoke Rapids police continue to investigate a vehicle crash that claimed the life of a juvenile pedestrian Thursday, Chief Lawrence Wiggins confirmed this afternoon.

The crash occurred shortly after 3:45 p.m. near the intersection of Roanoke Avenue and East Fifth Street.

Police are not currently releasing the name of the victim, and no further details were immediately available as of this report.

First Sergeant Lavern Bynum of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol said troopers assisted with measurements following the crash, but the Roanoke Rapids Police Department did not turn over the investigation to the state agency.
