Gerald McDaniel has turned the Roanoke Rapids mayoral race into a three-way battle when he filed for the office Wednesday.

He will face incumbent Mayor Emery Doughtie and challenger Ephraim Brodsky in the November 4 municipal elections.

McDaniel had run against former city Councilman Wayne Smith for the District 2 seat that former Councilman Greg Lawson had decided to vacate in 2013.

Smith won the election, collecting 79.03 percent of the votes.

The Weldon mayoral race will also be a contested election as incumbent Mayor Hugh Credle, who filed Wednesday, will run against current town Commissioner Jennifer Cox.

In Hobgood, incumbent Mayor Dannie A. Flanary filed Wednesday to seek re-election.

In other filings over the past two days, incumbent Halifax town Commissioner Sheila Wood filed to retain her seat and incumbent Mary Ann Coley filed to retain her seat on the Hobgood Town Board of Commissioners.

Incumbent Bobby Whitaker filed for the District A town commissioner seat in Enfield.

Sarah Brinker filed for the Enfield town commissioner District B seat.

Incumbent town Commissioner Gloria Cofield filed to retain her seat in Scotland Neck. Challenger Marcus Morris filed for a seat on the Scotland Neck town board.

Incumbent Littleton Mayor Heidi Hogan filed to retain her seat.

Roanoke Rapids City Councilman Curt Strickland filed to retain his District 1 council seat.

Roanoke Rapids City Councilman Andy Jackson filed to retain his District 2 seat. Former Councilman Wayne Smith filed to challenge Jackson for the seat.

In the town of Weldon, incumbent Commissioner Muzette Kiger filed to retain her seat.

Incumbent Roanoke Rapids Graded School District member Cathy Keeter filed to retain her seat. Incumbent Roanoke Rapids Rapids Graded School District board member Steven Ellis filed. Jim Whitmire and Carlton Ansley filed to run for the RRGSD board.Incumbent Jeffrey Kloss filed to retain his seat on the Roanoke Rapids Graded School Board of Education.

Scotland Neck Mayor Eddie Braxton filed to retain his seat.

Roanoke Rapids Sanitary District Board incumbents Jon Baker and James Kerr filed to retain their seats and Anthony Moseley filed for the third seat on the RRSD board.

Filing ends Friday, at noon in the Halifax County Board of Elections Office at the Old Historic Courthouse in Halifax.
