Two shootings that occurred in the 300 block of Monroe Street Sunday left no reported physical injuries but did result in property damage, according to the Roanoke Rapids Police Department.

Lieutenant Morgan Worrell said one shooting occurred around 4:45 p.m. and the other shortly before 10:30 p.m.

An occupied vehicle was struck in the first shooting.

Later that evening officers responded to numerous reports of shots fired in the same area in which four occupied residences were struck and one unoccupied residence was struck in what Worrell described as an exchange of gunfire. There were no reports of physical injury in this shooting.

Motive is unclear but the investigation is ongoing. “We are investigating this incident to the fullest extent and are actively working leads into the individuals responsible for these serious and dangerous actions,” Worrell said.
