The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office reported the following, according to Major Anzell Harris:

Friday evening the Community Action Team, Criminal Investigation Division and the Halifax Regional Drug and Gang Task Force assisted the Roanoke Rapids Police Department with a saturated patrol in the downtown area.

CAT Sergeant G. Martin was in the area of West Third near Franklin Street when he observed a motor vehicle violation and stopped a vehicle driven by Brandon Artis, 36, of Roanoke Rapids.

Martin detected the strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and Harris said Artis admitted to smoking and handed over a blunt.

A search yielded 18 dosage units of MDMA as well as approximately 95 grams of marijuana packaged individually for sale and items of drug paraphernalia.

Artis was arrested and charged with felony possession of marijuana, possession with intent to sell and distribute marijuana, felony possession of a schedule I controlled substance, possession with intent to sell MDMA, felony maintaining a vehicle for a controlled substance, possess drug paraphernalia and a window tint violation.

He received a $10,000 bond and Tuesday district court date.

HCSO detective sergeants G. Keel and J. Horne and Agent T. Acree with the task force assisted.

Citizen complaint

On Friday around 3 p.m. CAT Sergeant D. Harrison was stationary in the area of Highway 158 and Zoo Road when a citizen approached and told him about an erratic driver.

Harrison and Martin observed the vehicle at a convenience store in the same immediate area. They were familiar with the driver — 37-year-old Brenanessa Love of Littleton.

Love gave consent to search the vehicle and paraphernalia was found inside. Lieutenant R. Elder arrived to search Love and additional paraphernalia, meth and fentanyl were seized from her.

Love was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of schedule II and possession of drug paraphernalia.

She was jailed without the opportunity for bond due to a pending January 2026 superior court date for sell and deliver schedule II.

She has a March 19 district court date for Friday’s charges.
