A Fort Bragg man was killed Monday when the vehicle he was driving collided with the rear of a tow truck, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

First Sergeant Levern Bynum said 21-year-old Randy Colon Jr. was operating his vehicle in the south right lane of Interstate 95 in the Enfield area around 2:30 a.m.

A tow truck operator had just assisted a stranded motorist on the right shoulder when Colon traveled off the roadway and collided with the back of the wrecker, according to a preliminary investigation by Trooper C.R. Hogg.

Colon was declared deceased at the scene.

Bynum confirmed that Colon was stationed at Fort Bragg in the Fayetteville area.

Colon, a specialist, entered the Army in July of 2022. He was from Arverne, New York.
