Halifax Community College’s Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society recently dropped off its summer donations to Halifax County’s Department of Social Services.

PTK was welcomed by Deana Garner, human services deputy director, and several staff members.

During the months of March and April, PTK’s members collected numerous donations, including activity books, hula hoops, bubbles, flying discs, baby dolls, coloring books and crayons, pillows, fans, laundry detergent, toothbrushes and toothpaste, and more.

HCC instructors and PTK’s co-advisors Gary Redding and Ellen Divens began the donation drive by reminding the members that PTK’s service hallmark “emphasizes service to others, both on college campuses and in their communities.”

HCC President Patrena Elliott said, “PTK’s members demonstrate the positive results of active humanitarianism.  HCC celebrates their eagerness and commitment to help others in our community and beyond.”

DSS Director Felicia Exum said, “DSS is honored to receive donations collected by your Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society at HCC.  Thank you so much for the items.”
