Halifax Community College’s Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, Alpha Eta Phi Chapter, celebrates another successful academic year marked by the induction of outstanding students and active engagement in campus and community initiatives.

Throughout the year, members demonstrated a strong commitment to scholarship, leadership, service, and fellowship. The chapter continues to recognize academic excellence while providing opportunities for student involvement and leadership development.

PTK Advisor Gary Redding was recognized for his 10 years of dedicated service with a commemorative PTK pen. His contributions have played a significant role in supporting student success and strengthening the chapter’s impact on campus and in the community.

The chapter hosted three induction ceremonies featuring keynote speakers from among its members and alumni. In Spring 2025, PTK member and HCC student Sharon Williams shared her journey of perseverance as a nontraditional student returning to college. In fall 2025, Charisma Daniel, a PTK, HCC, and UNC-Chapel Hill alumna, encouraged members to use their education and careers to uplift their communities. In spring 2026, PTK President and Roanoke Rapids Early College High School student Josiah Ausby highlighted the organization’s mission by encouraging members to support and inspire one another.

During the academic year, PTK students participated in meaningful campus and community activities, including job interview and preparation workshops, donation drives for local youth and nursing home residents, public speaking sessions, and forums focused on mental, dental, and overall health.

PTK will enter the 2026–2027 academic year under the leadership of newly elected officers: President Josiah Ausby, Vice President Kacee Smith, Secretary Zakiyah Whitaker, and Treasurer Amari Owens.

Phi Theta Kappa is an international honor society that recognizes and encourages academic excellence among students at two-year colleges. To qualify for membership, students must maintain a GPA of 3.5 or higher, complete at least 12 credit hours toward an associate degree, and remain in good academic standing.
